It's just that making remote content is more effort (you want to at least semi-regularly add to that content to justify it being remote, you need to add networking to a game that might not have it, you need to maintain a server, you may need to either create a fallback experience or requiring a continuous internet connection). Most forms of content don't have to stay local. You might even see that dialogs from the first town are accessed 10 times as much as the last town and 100 times as much as the secret town in order to get a sense of how players are progressing through your game (and then, presumably, use that to influence updates to your design.) For you that can be valuable, but for players it'd be characters and dialogs that update more intelligently and frequently. Or maybe you see that 99% of characters follow a certain dialog path so you change the dialog to encourage more of a choice. Maybe characters whose dialogs get accessed infrequently start to express loneliness. Or you could take advantage of the fact that having a centralized content server gives you fine grained analytics as to how players are interacting with content. You could spend 15 minutes a week adding/updating dialogs on the server in order to make it worth it. But you could have it so that your core game only has, for example, super basic dialog and that it queries the server for the rich dialog scripts on-demand. For a traditional single player RPG, characters, dialog and quests would all just be stored locally. I will follow your tips though to try staying on top of them. It seems there isn't much one can do, I'll have to accept it and move on. I hope at least it was the second buyer and not the first one. I guess the thing that was worse is that I got excited for my first sold copy and then it turns out it was someone that wanted to crack it. I did expect that it would end up on some torrents but I didn't think I'd be that fast and it kinda bummed me out. Now I also wonder if one of the two purchases was from them and how likely it is that they'll refund it.ĭo any of you have ant experience with this issue?Įdit: thanks for all the comments, I didn't think this would get such a response :) I don't think I'll get to respond to everyone I have poured my soul into this game for years and to discover this is pretty disheartening I have to say. I found it is already uploaded to a site where you can download it for free. I was excited to have sold my first copy and was searching for my game on different search engines to see if it comes up.
